Significance of futsal

IFA has seen firsthand the positive impact that their coaching has made with significant physical and emotional developments. Guernsey’s young children get to participate in a fun and relaxed environment whilst learning new skills and honing life long techniques in preparation for adulthood. IFA has worked with over 6,000 young players on Guernsey since launching in September 2010, with over 55 players receiving technical training on a weekly basis.

Programming intensity through futsal

Futsal is played at a high tempo known as a transition game due to players frequently switching between defensive and attacking phases of play.

During a typical game of futsal, speed is characterised by frequent intermittent running and sprinting. Technical skill, creativity, intelligent play and aerobic capacity are the most important factors for gaining a clear advantage at any level.

IFA practices demand a high level of play with individuals covering a distance of anywhere from 3 to 4 kilometers in a sixty minute session. Players will repeat over 100 high-intensity actions, developing a good level of aerobic recovery.

Players that participate in futsal become immersed in ‘flow’, an optimal state of mind that is responsible for focus, motivation and productivity.

By developing players in smaller confined spaces you increase the capacity to solve problems.

Muscle memory reflexes become spontaneous; reaction over train of thought enables the player to perform skills in tight areas of the court that an outdoor player would find stressful in a game situation.

Above all, futsal is proven to significantly contribute to a player’s mental wellbeing.
